Old School Returns

The Denver Art Museum kicks off the weekend with its Friday night "Untitled" mixed-media event series, all about "offbeat encounters with art." This week’s celebration is old-school style. Local performers will entertain while guests (who are encouraged to wear high-tops, tracksuits and the like) mingle and participate in a variety of activities. Test your recall to see how much you know about art and artists in a pop quiz challenge. Or watch fashion designers as they battle it out in an attempt to create a ready-to-wear  outfit made of fabric, recycled garments, raw materials and everyday objects. And don’t forget to bring your yearbook picture for the Wall of Shame. The most "rad" picture wins.

The party is July 31 from 6-10 pm and is free with general museum admission. Don’t miss this mixed-media kickoff, celebrating art in all of its unexpected forms. For more information, just click here.

Last night CH&L hosted our 2009 Home of the Year Gala at the home of David Hintgen and John Moinzad, interior designers and owners of AERA Studios. We had a fantastic time in a beautiful home, all in the good company of 150 friends and guests. Stay tuned to coloradohomesmag.com for more photos from the party. Apart from having a fun evening, we also raised our glass to a good cause. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Mothers of Murdered Youth (MOMY), a nonprofit dedicated to supporting families who have lost a child by an act of violence.

A congratulations goes out to the winners of our raffle drawing for the evening—Jan Baer, who won a two-night stay in a Breckenridge mansion; Carol Moore, who won a private party at Blues Jean Bar; and Edward Shaoul, who won a one-month membership to Pura Vida.

If you weren’t able to attend the party last night, it’s not too late to come see the home for yourself and help MOMY. Come tour the home today (1 pm to 6 pm), Saturday (10 am to 4 pm), or Sunday (12 pm to 3 pm). Tickets are $5 at coloradohomesmag.com and $7 at the door. Or stop by AERA Studios in Cherry Creek and shop with your invitation in hand to receive 20% off any one item. For each purchase, AERA Studios will donate an extra 10% of the original sale price to MOMY. Thank you, and cheers!

Laughter may be the best medicine, but in our opinion, spa week is the best treatment. And with Spa Week’s Denver Fall Event reducing prices (that normally range from $100 to $450) to $50, why not make the most of this opportunity and treat yourself to one of the finest massages, facials, manicures, pedicures or eco-friendly treatments around? Mark your calendars for October 12-18 and get ready to unwind. A list of participating spas will be posted on Spa Week’s website September 14.

Rejoice, fans of contemporary art! Denver’s Michele Mosko Fine Art gallery has just welcomed a new exhibit featuring the work of Jill Greenberg. Typically known for her photographs of celebrities, Greenberg is changing it up with a super realistic take on animals in her Monkeys and Bears collection. Primates pose with gestures and facial expressions similar to those of humans. To celebrate the exhibit’s arrival, Brian Clamp of CLAMPART in New York City will tour and discuss Greenberg’s art on July 22 (from 5:30 pm to 8 pm) at the Arvada Center with all who come. Don’t miss this opportunity to converse with one of the world’s finest art experts and view fabulous contemporary photography. Normal gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 12 pm to 6 pm, but the exhibit will remain at the Arvada Center until August 30 only–so don’t wait. For more information about the Jill Greenberg exhibit, just click here. We hope to see you there!

Help us help MOMY

The team at CH&L invites you to join us in supporting Mothers of Murdered Youth (MOMY)–an organization designed to help families who are mourning the loss of a young loved one–by attending our Home of the Year Gala and Tours. All proceeds from the events will be donated to MOMY. Why this particular charity? Two reasons: First, MOMY provides emotional support for families of murdered youth. For those looking to confide in someone, phone numbers of other families who have suffered the same tragedy are offered. Second, MOMY actively speaks out against violence. If you’ve ever seen a billboard that protests violence, or a bus sign that raises awareness against community violence, chances are, MOMY was involved.

We’re excited to partner with MOMY in a unique combination of celebrating excellent design and supporting the fight against violence. Join us if you can; we hope to see you there! To purchase tickets and for other information about the Home of the Year Gala and Tours, click here.
