If you want to give yourself a post-Halloween treat, head to Visions West Gallery in Denver for the exhibition of Duke Beardsley’s work. A fifth-generation Colorado rancher, Beardsley portrays images of the American West, but his paintings reinterpret these images with an Andy Warhol-esque, pop-art twist.
If this description isn’t enticing enough to persuade you to go, consider this: The Denver Art Museum just bought two of Beardsley’s pieces for its permanent collection—an indicator of just how esteemed Beardsley is. Don’t miss seeing his work up close and in person. You won’t be disappointed.
The opening reception is Thursday, Nov. 12 from 6-9 p.m. The Beardsley exhibition runs through Dec. 11. For more info, call Visions West Gallery at (303) 292-0909.

Interior designer Nadia Hartman of Nadia Hartman Interiors holds a reflector card for photographer Martin Crabb as they put the finishing touches on lighting for the tabletop story that appears on pages 33 and 34 of our November/December Bed & Bath Issue.
For a festive and inviting holiday spread, Nadia dressed up a client’s dining table with a glowing, sparkling mix of white and silver, plus just the right amount of mirror and crystal, from The Lark in Denver’s Country Club neighborhood. Click here to see the photos and for tips on how to take home the look.

NEXT Gallery (in Denver’s Highlands neighborhood) is currently hosting a thoughtful up-and-coming artist who’s spent the last three years paying very serious attention to one of the most-used and under-appreciated aspects of our homes: doors. How much can they mean?
This weekend, take a trip to NEXT Gallery to see—through artist Ryan Talbot’s eyes—how much of our human experience can be seen, felt and maybe even explained through these passageways in our life. His show is titled "Transition" for obvious reasons, and also serves as a formal introduction to what’s up next in his artistic study: couches.
The show runs through Sunday, November 1, so don’t miss your chance to catch Talbot in transition… in more than one sense of the word.

DecorAsian has always been a treasure trove of fine Asian things, but right now the Denver and Boulder showrooms are especially full of new goodies. (The company recently purchased East-West Designs, Denver’s premier importer of fine Japanese antiques and furnishings.) New arrivals include more than 40 tansu (kimono, kitchen, tea, merchant and other chests); an array of beautiful textiles; doors and screens; and a large collection of fine antique ceramics and other accent pieces. You could spend hours perusing the many interesting odds and ends. Here’s a preview of some of the fabulous chests, but stop by the DecorAsian showrooms in Denver and Boulder to browse the full collection. decorasianstyle.com.

Join HomeAid Colorado, a non-profit that builds quality homes for the temporarily homeless, at the ninth-annual Fashion Show Fundraiser on Friday, Sept 18th from 6-9pm at The Curtis Hotel in Denver. The event raises money in support of HomeAid’s mission– to provide dignified transitional homes for Colorado’s homeless individuals and families.
This year’s event is ’70s-inspired, and guests are encouraged to show up in their favorite disco styles to dance, enjoy a variety of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, and participate in live and silent auctions. A fashion show will be the night’s entertainment, and all models will walk in vintage and contemporary attire inspired by the era.
So get out your polyester hot pants and visit www.hacolo.org for more information and to buy tickets ($95 each).

I just received an email announcing some of the exhibitors at this year’s Denver Modernism Show, scheduled for August 28-30 at the National Western Complex. I went to the event last year in the pouring rain… It was worth the soggy drive and umbrellaed dash through puddles to this amazingly well-put-together show.
They have announced that this year there will be nearly double the booths–I can’t wait to see what vintage excitement they will be pulling out of their hats this time around! Anyone who has even a passing interest in Mid-Century style will be in heaven here, with the oodles of booths featuring furniture, home accessories, fine art, electronics, fashion and more.
I am planning to go to the Preview Party on Friday night with live bands and a tiki bar–very swanky! Check out their website for lectures, special events and the huge exhibitor list at denvermodernism.com. –Elaine

Today I learned all about the value of having a home filled with great (versus mediocre) lighting. The lighting pros at Colorado Concept Lighting know all about the importance of accentuating your art with lighting that shows just what a quality investment should look like–in comparison to the effect of fixtures from a big-box store. Whether you’re an art collector, chef or just want the ambiance of good lighting, go to ColoradoConceptLighting.com to learn about how to conceptualize and complete your dream-home lighting needs.

The Denver Art Museum kicks off the weekend with its Friday night "Untitled" mixed-media event series, all about "offbeat encounters with art." This week’s celebration is old-school style. Local performers will entertain while guests (who are encouraged to wear high-tops, tracksuits and the like) mingle and participate in a variety of activities. Test your recall to see how much you know about art and artists in a pop quiz challenge. Or watch fashion designers as they battle it out in an attempt to create a ready-to-wear outfit made of fabric, recycled garments, raw materials and everyday objects. And don’t forget to bring your yearbook picture for the Wall of Shame. The most "rad" picture wins.
The party is July 31 from 6-10 pm and is free with general museum admission. Don’t miss this mixed-media kickoff, celebrating art in all of its unexpected forms. For more information, just click here.

Last night CH&L hosted our 2009 Home of the Year Gala at the home of David Hintgen and John Moinzad, interior designers and owners of AERA Studios. We had a fantastic time in a beautiful home, all in the good company of 150 friends and guests. Stay tuned to coloradohomesmag.com for more photos from the party. Apart from having a fun evening, we also raised our glass to a good cause. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Mothers of Murdered Youth (MOMY), a nonprofit dedicated to supporting families who have lost a child by an act of violence.
A congratulations goes out to the winners of our raffle drawing for the evening—Jan Baer, who won a two-night stay in a Breckenridge mansion; Carol Moore, who won a private party at Blues Jean Bar; and Edward Shaoul, who won a one-month membership to Pura Vida.
If you weren’t able to attend the party last night, it’s not too late to come see the home for yourself and help MOMY. Come tour the home today (1 pm to 6 pm), Saturday (10 am to 4 pm), or Sunday (12 pm to 3 pm). Tickets are $5 at coloradohomesmag.com and $7 at the door. Or stop by AERA Studios in Cherry Creek and shop with your invitation in hand to receive 20% off any one item. For each purchase, AERA Studios will donate an extra 10% of the original sale price to MOMY. Thank you, and cheers!
